Attendance FAQ

Q: How many unexcused absences am I allowed without being penalized?
A: You are allowed two unexcused absences. On the third unexcused absence, you will go into "not in good standing."

Q: What does it mean to be in "not in good standing"? A: Having the status of "not in good standing" means you no longer have the right to:
vote at chapter meetings
Participate in discussion at chapter meetings
hold office
have a little sister
be eligible for honors
transfer alumnae status upon graduation

Q: Is it possible to get back into good standing?
A: Yes. You must attend three consecutive events and petition the executive board.

Q: What are the acceptable reasons for an excused absence?
A: SAI recognizes four reasons:
1) A professional engagement or class
2) Illness
3) Necessary absence from the city
4) Work conflict

Q: What do I do if I have to miss an event due to one of the above reasons?
A: You must fill out an excuse card, which are available on this website, and either give it to the secretary in person, have someone else give it to her, or e-mail it to her.

Q: How far in advance do I have to submit my excuse?
A: You must turn in an excuse card two weeks before the scheduled event. If there are extenuating circumstances in which this can not be done, then see the secretary ASAP.

Q: May I turn in an excuse card after the event?
A: No, unless it is an emergency and that will be handled on a case by case basis.

Q: May I just tell the secretary verbally?
A: No, because the secretary will not remember.

Q: What if I am interning this semester?
A: If you are interning, please let the secretary know. You are excused from all chapter events and still retain the rights and privileges of being in good standing.
